Tuition & Financial Aid: Consumer InformationFrequently Asked Questions
Applying for Financial Aid:Financial Aid Award:
Taxes, Repayment and Other Considerations:
How do I apply for federal financial aid?First, apply for admission at Capella University. At that time you may complete Capella's online financial aid application, which allows you to avoid the delays associated with paper-based applications. If you have additional questions about this process, please call us at 1-888-227-2736.
How is my federal financial award determined?A federal financial aid award is based on estimated costs associated with a learner's degree and academic program. The Financial Aid Office subtracts your expected family contribution from the cost of attendance to determine your financial need.
An award will be determined when your financial aid file is complete, you meet all eligibility requirements, and you have been admitted to a degree or certificate program. Is there a way to purchase books and software before the start of the quarter or before my financial aid award arrives?Yes. Capella University allows a one-time book advance of up to $250 before your first course, to help you purchase your books or software before your first financial aid disbursement. Simply complete the First Course Book Advance Form and submit the form at least two weeks before the start of your first quarter. You must have completed the financial aid application process and have sufficient financial aid to cover the advance.
What can I do if I have credit problems?Download the Wells Fargo “Credit Confidence” brochure for information (PDF). Should I consolidate my prior student loans before I start at Capella?Possibly. By consolidating your undergraduate federal student loans, you may be able to reduce your interest rate to as little as 4.7 percent (as of June 2006). The Capella University Financial Aid Office is available to help you with this and other decisions regarding your financial commitments. Contact us at 1-888-227-2736 for assistance.
